It’s about time!

It’s been so long since I’ve posted anything new that I honestly forgot about how to log in to on my computer.  But it’s time to get back into the swing of things.

I’ve chosen to write today because I’m really happy!  The latest issue of Worship Leader magazine just arrived in my mailbox today and I was very excited to see that I was featured in the WL Profile!  Seriously!!!

My worship intern, Jacob, asked me if it was because I am so old.

I’m not trying to make too much of myself.  I know that isn’t the point.  I’m just filled with joy and I want to share it with my friends!

The reason I wrote “It’s about time” for the title of this post is not because I feel like it is about time that I am featured in this magazine.  I honestly don’t feel that way at all.

It’s also not because it is about time I finally blog again.  Although that is very true!

It’s about time!

Confused?  Hang in there with me…

We make time for what is important.  Would you agree with that statement?  Would you also agree that our perception of time (timing) is very different than God’s perception.  Here’s an example: Proverbs 22:6 says “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  How old is “old”?  Is it when our kids turn 18, graduate from High School and start down their own road?  How about 21 when we are supposedly mature enough to consume alcohol and gamble?  How about 40?  I’m actually turning 40 in a couple months.  Am I “old” yet?  What if old is…even older!  All this just to say we certainly don’t understand God’s timing.

I certainly haven’t always made the best choices in life.  I’ve tried to rush things along without having the patience to wait on God.  Thankfully, God is gracious and He has been patient with me!  Now I find myself here in Colorado Springs, about to turn 40 years old, privileged to be serving in full-time ministry with a genuine, loving church family.  I’ve made some conscious decisions to “consider it pure joy” when experiencing difficult circumstances because I finally trust the promises of my Heavenly Father, namely that facing trials head on will develop perseverance which helps me become mature, complete and lacking nothing! (James 1:2-4)

The goal is not our comfort…it’s our character!  It’s also about living for something and someone beyond ourselves.  When we are children, we think and act like children.  But we all have to grow up eventually.

Call me a slow-learner.  Whatever.  I’m just glad I finally said “Yes” to God and trusted His goodness and sovereignty!  It’s about time for sure!

Since this post is all about time, I want to close with the final question and answer from my interview in the July/August issue of Worship Leader magazine (pages 20-21)

WL: “What has been the biggest blessing of being a worship leader?”

Adam: “I’ve been blessed beyond measure to be able to serve the local church as a worship leader.  Singing about God’s grace each and every week never gets old.  It has been permanently impressed upon my heart.  I have been shaped by these songs and by the Spirit of God who inhabits the praises of his people.”

It’s about time!

  1. You’ve had our love and respect for a very long time, Adam!! Thanks for sharing a bit of your journey. All of our journeys are as different as we are. Personally, I’m so thankful for a patient God who loves me unconditionally with all my quirks, etc. We will be forever grateful that our paths crossed many years ago. You two made a difference in our lives, and we are indebited to you both and to the Lord we commonly serve!
